We at the Foundation for A Course In Miracles, Inc. (the “Foundation”) are committed to preserving the privacy of information that users of our Site at www.facim.org may share with us. This Privacy Policy contains the guidelines that govern our collection, use, protection and disclosure of the personal and non-personal information of users of the Site. Please read our Privacy Policy carefully before using this Site and/or submitting any information on this Site that could identify you. Each time you log on to our Site, you are agreeing to abide by this Privacy Policy, which we may modify from time to time, as reflected by the revision date below.

Information We Collect

IP addresses are recorded as users interact with our Online Bookstore. We do not, however, automatically collect personal information, such as name, e-mail address, home or other address, telephone number, social security number, credit card information or other personally identifiable information (“personal information”) from users of our Site. However, users who use our Site to (i) order and purchase books, CDs, DVDs or other material from us; (ii) register for our educational programs and workshops, or our e-newsletter; (iii) make a donation to the Foundation through the Site; or (iv) communicate with us through our Site, may be required to provide certain personal information to us.

We maintain your first and last name, telephone number, e-mail address, billing address, and shipping address (if provided) to communicate with you about the services described above, but we do not retain your credit card information on our server. We will not sell, license or otherwise disclose your personal information that you provide us in any identifiable form to any other party outside the Foundation or our affiliated organizations, except with your permission or as otherwise required by law or specified herein. Our employees and contractors who will have access to your personal information are not permitted to disclose your personal information or use it for any purpose outside the scope of their duties.

The Foundation will protect your personal information with the technological, physical and administrative safeguards as we determine appropriate to minimize the risk of its unauthorized disclosure or use. We will keep your information until it is no longer needed to fulfill the purpose(s) for which it was collected, or as otherwise required or permitted by law. After such time we will delete your personal information, or if that is not possible we will securely store your personal information. Although the Foundation makes every effort to preserve the privacy of personal information we may need to disclose your information when required by law or in the good-faith belief that such action is necessary in order to comply with law.

Newsletter & Email Communications

The Foundation offers an opt-in announcement newsletter for students and visitors who wish to receive updates about new releases, programs, and Foundation news. Your email address is collected only when you affirmatively choose to subscribe by ticking an opt-in checkbox. We do not add users to our mailing list without their explicit consent. You may unsubscribe from our newsletter at any time by following the unsubscribe instructions included in every email communication we send. We will not sell, license, or share your email address with any third party outside the Foundation.

Cookies

We may use cookies, web beacons, and similar technologies that automatically collect anonymous, non-personal information when users access the Site. Cookies are small pieces of information passed by a web server to your browser for record keeping and identification purposes. Such information may include the length or date of your use of the Site, and the pages of our Site that you visit, among others. A “session cookie” disappears after you close your web browser, or may expire after a fixed period of time. A “persistent cookie” or tracking cookie remains after you close your web browser and may be accessed every time you use our Site. We may use both session and persistent cookies. You should consult your web browser to modify your cookie settings. Please note that if you delete or choose not to accept cookies from us, you may not be able to use certain features of our Site. There may be other tracking technologies now and later devised and used by us in connection with the Site. We use the data collected from cookies to improve the functionality and contents of our Site. Your personal information is not stored in our cookies.

The Foundation does not sell, trade, or otherwise transfer cookie data or any personally identifiable information derived from cookies to third parties. Cookie data is used solely to improve your experience on our Site and to understand how our Site is being used in aggregate.

Payment Processing

Online purchases, streaming subscriptions, and donations made through our affiliated websites are processed by trusted third-party payment processors, including Shopify, Shopify Payments, PayPal, and Stripe. These processors operate under their own privacy and security policies and are responsible for the secure handling of your payment card information. The Foundation does not store, retain, or have access to your full credit card details at any point during or after a transaction. By using our online payment services, you acknowledge that your payment information is subject to the privacy policies of these third-party processors. We encourage you to review their privacy policies to understand how your payment data is handled. The use of these processors does not constitute a sale or sharing of your personal information by the Foundation.

During your use of our Site, you may link to and access other web sites. The Foundation does not control any of these linked web sites and we are not responsible for the operation of those sites. Thus, neither this Privacy Policy nor our Terms of Service apply to any linked web sites. Any information you provide to any linked web site will be governed by that web site operator’s privacy and use policies. We encourage our users to read the privacy and use policies of the linked web sites you use to understand how personal information may be collected, used, and disclosed by the linked web sites. We will not have access to any personal information that you provide to any linked site unless you have given permission to the linked site to share that personal information with the Foundation.

The Foundation does not currently maintain a public chat room, bulletin board, blog or other visitor information sharing forum on the Site. However, such forums may be available on web sites that are linked to our Site. Please be aware that these information sharing forums are often accessible by the public and are not covered by this Privacy Policy.

Not Intended for Children

The material on our Site is intended for our students and visitors interested in learning more about A Course in Miracles and its understanding of forgiveness as the road to inner peace, and the Foundation’s mission of educating students on the Course. Our site is not intended for use by children under the age of 18 without parental or guardian supervision. We do not knowingly collect or use any personal information from children.

Do Not Track

For web browser use, you may set your browser to refuse these data collection methods, but we may not recognize or respond to “do not track” technologies employed by your browser. We do not track our users over time and across third party websites or online services to provide targeted advertising, and we do not specifically respond to Do Not Track (“DNT”) signals.

International Transfers

The Site is headquartered in the United States. Please be aware that personal information you provide to us or that we obtain as a result of your use of the Site may be collected in your country and subsequently transferred to the United States or to another country in accordance with applicable law. By using our Site, you consent to the collection, international transfer, storage, and processing of your personal information.

Rights of Individuals in the EEA

If you are a resident of the European Economic Area (EEA), you have the following privacy rights related to your personal information:

  • The right to access the personal information we maintain on you and to receive a copy of it.
  • The right to request the correction of personal information that we have on you.
  • The right to restrict how we are using your personal information, unless we have compelling, warranted reasons or other legal rights or obligations.
  • The right to object to how we are using your personal information.
  • The right to request that we delete your personal information.
  • The right to file a complaint if you believe we are not using or protecting your personal information in the way we have described above.

The rights described above may be limited by local laws. Your right to access your personal information or request that we delete your personal information may not be available in certain situations in compliance with applicable law.

California Residents — CCPA / CPRA Rights

If you are a California resident, you have additional rights under the California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA) and the California Privacy Rights Act (CPRA). The Foundation does not sell or share your personal information with third parties for commercial purposes. You have the right to know what personal information we collect about you, the right to request deletion of your personal information, and the right to non-discrimination for exercising your privacy rights.
